About this course
How should a vessel be properly prepared for a Port State Control (PSC) inspection, serious deficiencies prevented, and costly vessel detention (Detention) avoided?
PSC INSIDER is a specialized package of training courses developed by the AtSea project team based on real Port State Control inspections, analysis of PSC Reports, the most common deficiencies (Deficiencies), and practical experience in preparing vessels for inspections.
This course covers the vessel as a whole — from the engine room and deck equipment to the navigation bridge, fire safety, life-saving appliances, vessel documentation, and compliance with the requirements of international conventions, including SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, and the ISM Code.
Key course topics
Most common PSC deficiencies: A detailed analysis of typical deficiencies identified by inspectors, the reasons behind them, and ways to prevent them.
Action Codes 17 and 30: Understanding the requirements for rectifying deficiencies, serious non-conformities, and risks of vessel detention (Detention).
International regulatory requirements: Study of the conventions, rules, and procedures followed by Port State Control Officers (PSCO).
Practical preparation for inspection: How to prepare the vessel, properly allocate responsibilities among crew members, and interact correctly with the PSCO.
Preventing deficiencies: Identifying potential non-conformities, organizing corrective actions, and reducing the risk of vessel detention.
Professional maritime information platforms: Practical use of Equasis, IMO GISIS, S&P Global, Paris MoU, and Tokyo MoU resources in the daily work of the crew and technical management.
Who is this course intended for?
PSC INSIDER is designed for ship engineers, deck officers, chief engineers, masters, junior specialists, as well as seafarers preparing for promotion and further professional development.
The course will be equally useful for Technical Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Fleet Managers, and representatives of shore-based technical management responsible for the technical condition of vessels, regulatory compliance, inspection preparation, and the efficiency of fleet operations.
Learn from real practical experience
Unlike programs based primarily on the theoretical study of regulatory documents, PSC INSIDER is built on the analysis of real PSC Inspection Reports, identified deficiencies, cases of vessel detention (Detention), and the practical experience of maritime industry professionals.
You will learn not only what exactly PSCO inspectors check, but also why specific deficiencies arise, what consequences they may lead to, and how to prevent them before the inspector even comes on board the vessel.
Our goal: To teach you to identify potential deficiencies before the inspector does, understand the requirements of international regulatory documents, take effective preventive measures in a timely manner, and minimize the risk of vessel detention.
